Christopher Soto
Counseling
Chris Soto is the School Counselor for the Upper House at CHAD. Chris counseled troubled teenagers for seven years at a therapeutic boarding school in Northampton, Massachusetts called The Academy at Swift River. His experiences led to a belief that students should be educated about their social and emotional lives with the same emphasis as math, science, and English. His passion for adolescent well-being led him to Harvard University, where he received a Masters in Human Development and Psychology. In addition to counseling students, Chris teaches Introduction to Psychology to juniors and seniors and sponsors the skateboard club.
Beyond his role at CHAD, Chris teaches Child and Adolescent Development at the Penn Graduate School of Education. He is also a fifth year doctoral student hard at work on his dissertation research, which focuses on the formation and maintenance of academically productive student-teacher connections in the classroom. Recently, he won a grant award for this research from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. In his spare time, Chris runs, reads, hangs out with his wonderful wife, and plays with his Chocolate Lab named Claire Fisher, who often licks his face.
