Debra Buchan began her professional career as an attorney but feels much more energized being in the classroom than in the courtroom. After attending college as an English major at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY, she received her J.D. at Temple and her M.Ed. at Arcadia University. Ms. Buchan loves the NC beaches, shelling, and boogie boarding. She also loves reading mysteries and historical fiction, hiking through the Pine Barrens in NJ, and going to John Prine concerts.

But more than anything else in the world, Ms. Buchan loves being mom to her two daughters: Kara, 19, a UArts sophomore majoring in theatre; and Mackenzie, 13, an 8th grader at Springfield Township High School, whose passions include ice skating, playing the piano, and hanging out with her friends. This school year, Ms. Buchan is excited to be co-teaching American Studies with Mr. Mel Ruth.
