Mel Ruth

Chair, History Department

Mr Ruth, father to Olivia and Noah, husband to Diane, has been a teacher for 15 years. For the last five years he has taught American History and Psychology at CHAD. After graduating from York College with a B.A. in secondary education, Mr. Ruth worked as a dairy farmer and Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho, Southern Africa. He also taught English in Japan as part of a teacher exchange program, where he authored a book about the Japanese educational system. He is currently a member of National Council of Social Studies Teachers and Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS).

He has traveled extensively all over the world, and is especially interested in researching the modernization of traditional societies. Mr. Ruth is also an artist, working in paint, mixed media, woodworking and sculpture. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and writing, traveling, playing with Olivia and Noah, and seeking out fun and rewarding experiences with Diane.
